Monmouth is a county in New Jersey. It was formed in 1683 from East Jersey Province. The Earliest Land Deed was recorded in 1766/1667. The Surrogate's records begin in 1785/1804 . The mailing address of the county Surrogate's Court is Hall of Records Freehold 07728-1265. For more information, contact the county at Hall of Records, Rm. 111 1 East Main St. Freehold 07728-1251. On the attached map, Monmouth is located at E6. Some records were destroyed by the British in 1778, which might explain the gap in the deeds from 1756 to 1785. Older records have been transferred to a county records center.
