Florida Naturalization
This entry was originally written by the Florida Pioneer Descendants Certification Program Committee of the Florida State Genealogical Society, Inc. for Red Book: American State, County, and Town Sources.
These records can be found in county and U.S. district courts in Florida. Not all of the records have been microfilmed at the local level. Query the local courthouse to find out what records they own and the year they start. The Florida State Archives has naturalization records for ten counties: Brevard, Dade, DeSoto, Franklin, Hillsborough, Manatee, Monroe, Orange, Pasco, and Volusia. Dated but potentially still useful is the WPA volume Naturalization Records in Florida (Tallahassee, 1940). The National Archives'Southeast Region (see page 12) has petitions for Naturalization Records of U.S. District Courts in the Southeast, 1790'1958, and records for the following. The first three are also available from FHL:
- U.S. District Court, Florida Southern District. 1847'1941. Key West, Monroe County.
- U.S. District Court, Florida Middle District, 1913'32. Miami, Dade County.
- U.S. District Court, Florida Southern District, 1909'35. Tampa, Hillsborough County.
- U.S. District Court, Florida Northern District, Pensacola, Escambia County and Tallahassee, Leon County. These last records have not been microfilmed.
- Alachua County Judgment Books contain Naturalizations and are online from 1850 to 1901
