Church records that have been microfilmed by the Missouri State Archives can be located by searching for the term 'church records on microfilm' in the archives' online catalog at msa.library.net. Church microfilm rolls are not available for purchase, without written consent of the individual church, and must otherwise be used at the Missouri State Archives. The Western Historical Manuscript Collection at the University of Missouri campuses located in Columbia, St. Louis, Rolla, and Kansas City holds some church records. These can be located by using the online catalog of the relevant collection (see Missouri Periodicals, Newspapers, and Manuscript Collections). The Western Historical Manuscript Collection'Columbia also holds photographs and histories of churches throughout the state, which were gathered in the Missouri Extension Homemakers Association's 'Sacred Stones and Stained Glass Project.' Most church records in Missouri are scattered and remain in private hands.
