Project Instructions This collection contains Police Gazettes from Ireland representing the years 1863-1893. The gazettes consist of "articles" detailing crimes allegedly or definitely committed by individuals within the communities represented. We will be keying the victims and perpetrators of the crimes.
Note: When keying, you may encounter words that appear to use the letter "f" in place of the "s," e.g. "Bailey Seffions" for "Bailey Sessions" or "Confpiring" for "Conspiring." In this case, key an "s" in place of the "f."
Note: Please use your best judgment to interpret the instructions and index this project.

Military Deserter
Choose 'military deserter' for images with "Deserters from her Majesty's Service" in bold lettering near the top of the image. These images will have columns with the following labels:
Office No. | Name and Reg. No. | Corps. | Where Born | Trade | Age | Hair | Eyes | Face | Coat & Trousers | Date of Desert | Place of Desert
Cover page, Section header, etc.
Use the 'Cover page, Section header, etc' type for images that don't contain any data, but might be interesting to look at because they provide some type of context for the image set. For instance, historical notes, affidavits, and so forth.

Image with no data
Use the 'Image with no data' type for images that don't contain any data or any useful context that might be interesting for someone to look at. For instance, an image containing only the blank background or an image with a microfilm target on it.
