Project Instructions
This collection contains the Fasti Ecclesiae Anglicanae, or a calendar of the principal ecclesiastical dignitaries in England and Wales, and of the chief officers in the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, from the earliest time to 1854.
From these images we are keying any names, ecclesiastical event dates, age at death, and death dates that may appear. Because the records go so far back, information available for each person will vary, and often only a given name will be provided.
Often, more than one date will appear in the biographical information. When more than one date appears, key the earliest date that pertains to the pertinent position. Dates pertaining to the position will often be preceded by words such as "elected", "instituted", or "presented." On early records, the year may appear in the left margin next to the entry.
Age at death and death dates should be keyed where available. Do not key the date of the will as a death date. Dates appearing after the abbreviation "ob." are obituary dates and should be keyed in the death date fields.
Some records will contain names of those that served in vice positions. Do not key these names. Names that appear in footnotes, introductory material, and indexes should not be keyed.
There are a few images (pages 335-340) that should be classified as "Colonial Bishops and Addenda." These images will say "Colonial Bishops" or "Addenda" at the top of the image. From these images we are also keying the Diocese. The Diocese should be keyed as seen and keyed to all records to which it applies.
