An important source in identifying and locating Oregon cemeteries is Oregon Cemetery Survey (Salem, Ore.: Oregon Department of Transportation, 1978). This volume records the location of every known cemetery in Oregon by utilizing modern highway maps of each county to show the location of each cemetery. A more comprehensive and contemporary work based on this earlier one is Dean H. Byrd, Stanley R. Clark, and Janice M. Healy's monumental Oregon Burial Site Guide (Portland, Ore.: Binford & Mort Publishing, 2001). It provides information on cemeteries missed in the 1978 work, and an easier indexing system.
Many cemetery transcriptions are on the Internet. These include www.interment.net with a growing selection and links to Oregon cemeteries and valuable links to Oregon sites that concern cemeteries; and 'Oregon Cemetery Transcriptions' www.rootsweb.com/~orpionpr/Cemeteries.html. Links to various sites including preservation sites can be found at the Oregon Historic Cemetery Association website at www.oregoncemeteries.org.
Local genealogical and historical societies have also indexed graveyards. Published versions are widely available with some microfilmed records at the Oregon State Library.
