Order of Descendants of Pirates and Privateers

The service of Privateers contributed significantly to the operation of the military forces of this Nation, because the early United States had almost no official Navy. Without the service of the Privateers, this Nation might not have come to be, since the Privateers curtailed the flow of supplies to the British military forces. It is a sad fact that the service of those establishing, supporting, maintaining, and manning the Privateers has been neglected and devalued in American history.

Additionally, the exploits of Pirates have contributed significantly to the Lore, Tradition, and Romance of American History and Culture.

In order to recognize and honor these contributions the Order of Descendants of Pirates and Privateers was established.
