Johni Cerny, president and founder of Lineages, Inc., is a nationally known lecturer and researcher specializing in slave, colonial Virginia, and immigrant ancestry. She has been an editor of many major genealogical resource publications, including co-editor of Ancestry's The Library: A Guide to the LDS Family History Library, which won the Reference Book of the Year Award from the American Library Association in 1989. Johni wrote the "Vital Records" chapter of The Source: A Guidebook to American Genealogy.
