The Ancestry.com Wiki is easy to use, but depending on what you want to do, some features do require a bit of learning. For example, if you want to add a section to an article that includes a table, you'll need to learn something about how to design and display tables.  The Ancestry.com Wiki uses a special series of symbols (called a markup language) that controls things like formatting and tables in articles. You can learn more about this markup language below in the 'Contributing to the Ancestry.com Wiki' section.

The Ancestry.com Wiki is built using MediaWiki, the same platform used by Wikipedia, the FamilySearch Wiki, and WeRelate, so if you have used any of those great resources, your knowledge should transfer perfectly. In any case, the following articles are here to help you master the Ancestry.com Wiki.

Overview

Welcome to the Ancestry.com Wiki. This page links to a variety of articles that will help you understand the ins and outs of using the wiki, from simply finding and reading useful articles to making changes to a page, following changes made to an article, creating new pages, and interacting with the wiki community.

This help page will continue to grow, so keep your eye on it. If you have a question to which you find no answer here, please ask it on the Discussion page for this page and we will try to answer it as soon as we can.
