The district court holds original jurisdiction in all equity cases, probate, divorce proceedings, naturalizations granted by the county court, coroner's inquests, civil cases, criminal cases, adoptions, juvenile cases, and paternity suits. Denver is the only district in Colorado that has separate probate and juvenile courts.
County courts handle civil cases involving no more than $15,000, misdemeanors, bonds, preliminary hearings, and traffic cases. County judges also issue search warrants and restraining orders.
