Chesterfield County is one of 17 counties that were burned between 1785 and 1872, and one of six with almost a total loss of all records prior to 1865.  These facts make locating information regarding family much more difficult than most areas within the state.  Even with this, there are many records available that are helpful to researchers.  Some of these records can be found online and others through some unusual sources providing the researcher has patients to do the work.
