Charleston is a county or district in South Carolina. It was formed in 1800 from the following county/ies or district/s: Marion/Washington Counties in Charleston District; 1680. Charleston began keeping birth records in 1915, marriage records in 1911, and death records in 1915. It began keeping land records in 1671, probate records in 1671, and court records in 1700. Records of Charleston Circuit Court and Equity Circuit Districts and the Province of South Carolina (1671'1785) are housed in Charleston County.
