About this project This collection consists of multi-page family questionnaires taken by the World Jewish Congress in 1945 for many areas of Romania. The questionnaires record information such as family members' names, birth dates, birthplaces, occupations, and residence locations. Other information recorded includes details about persecution, victims, expropriated property and deportations. Victim groups included in this collection: Jews.

Need help keying this project?
The first page of each questionnaire packet contains most of the information about the head of household or other primary person. These are then followed by the remaining pages of the questionnaire packet. There are three types of questionnaires:
- Family File (Dosar Tip A)
- Family Member File (Dosar Tip B)
- Family Questionnaire (Chestionar)
We will be keying from these pages as well from a few other pages within the packet that provide details on the family members. All other pages from the questionnaire should be classified as "Cover page, Section header, etc."
Many names and locations will contain diacritics. Key those as seen using the "Insert international characters" button located directly above the keying grid and directly below the image. For Romanian language helps, click here.

This project uses diacritics
If you are using Windows XP there are some diacritics that may not be displayed correctly. This occasionally happens in newer browsers and operating systems as well. You may see a box inserted as a letter. For example: Mie'¡dzyrzecz instead of MiÄdzyrzecz
When you key letters with diacritics, it is best to use the international character set provided or the numeric shortcut shown in the keying tool. (Note: Not all diacritics will have a shortcut displayed.) Do not use other keyboard shortcuts as a work around. For arbitrators and reviewers who are using Windows XP operating systems, if you see the '¡ displayed, you will need to key the diacritic using the international characters symbols provided in the tool to ensure the proper diacritic is being entered.

Other Family File Pages
This form type should be used for two types of images.
1. Second page of a questionnaire packet. The left-side image is turned sideways and contains information on family members, both living and deceased (victims).
2. Last page of a questionnaire packet and contains the heading "Victimele Din Familia Declarantului." This page lists information on the victim family members.
Not all fields are available to key on both types of images. If a piece of information is not available on the record, just skip that field or mark it blank if it is a required field.

Age at Death
Key the person's age from the column labeled "Sexul si anul nasterii sau varsta." This heading means "Sex and year of birth or age." If a birth year is given, then the age will likely not be given. In this case, just leave this field blank. Otherwise, key the age according to the following rules:
- If an age includes years, months, and/or days then key only the years. For example, if an age appears as 10 years, 7 months then key the age as 10.
- If an age appears in months only, such as 10 months, then key the age as a fraction of twelfths ' 10/12.
- If an age includes a fraction, such as 3 3/8, key only the whole number ' 3.

Is Victim
From the provided drop-down list select "Yes" if the person was a victim or "No" if the person was not. A person can be identified as a victim by the heading that appears above the list of names. If the word "victimele" is included in the heading, then the person was a victim. If other words such as "persoanele in viata" are present instead, then the person was not a victim.
