Project Instructions
This collection contains marriage bond records from Rutherford county, North Carolina from 1779-1868.
For this project we are keying name, spouse name, marriage bond date, and, where available, marriage date.
Most often the records will appear in this format: Surname, Prefix, Given, Suffix & Spouse Given, Spouse Surname, Marriage Bond Day, Marriage Bond Month, Marriage BondYear; ... m Marriage Day, Marriage Month, Marriage Year.
Most often, only a Marriage Bond date is given, but sometimes only a Marriage Date is given. If present, the marriage date will be noted by a lower case "m."
We will not be keying the name of the bondsman, which appears after the marriage bond date. The name of the bondsman is preceded by the abbreviation "bm".

Choose the Marriage Record form type for all images containing marriage information.
Prefix
Key any titles before the Given name, such as "Dr", "Rev", "Mr" or "Mrs", using a dictionary if provided for assistance. If a prefix does not appear in a dictionary then key the prefix as seen.
Given
Key the first name or initial and any middle names of the primary person to whom the record pertains using the dictionary provided for assistance. If a name does not appear in the dictionary then key the name as seen.
Surname
Key the Surname using the dictionary provided for assistance. If the surname does not appear in the dictionary then key the surname as seen.
Suffix
Key all titles, such as "Jr" or "III", following the surname of the primary person to whom the record applies using a dictionary if provided for assistance. If a suffix does not appear in a dictionary then key the suffix as seen.
Spouse Given
Key the Spouse given name or initial and any middle names using the dictionary provided for assistance. If a spouse given name does not appear in the dictionary then key the spouse given name as seen.
Spouse Surname
Key the Spouse Surname using the dictionary provided for assistance. If the spouse surname does not appear in the dictionary then key the spouse surname as seen.
Marriage Bond Day
The Marriage Bond Day is the first element in the marriage bond date. Key as seen.
Marriage Bond Month
The Marriage Bond Month is the second element in the marriage bond date. Using the dictionary provided, key the month in its three-letter abbreviation.
Marriage Bond Year
The Marriage Bond Year is the third element in the marriage bond date. The Year must be either two or four digits. The expected year range is 1779-1868
Marriage Day
The Marriage Day is the first element in the marriage date. Key as seen.
Marriage Month
The Marriage Month is the second element in the marriage date. Using the dictionary provided, key the month in its three-letter abbreviation.
Marriage Year
The Marriage Year is the third element in the marriage date. Key as seen.
