Project Instructions This collection contains records from the "Welsh Society of Philadelphia" including lists of immigrants who received charity, cemetery registers, treasurer's accountings, minutes and emigrant records among other information.

When keying "Charity List" form types, pay particular attention to lists of names to be sure they are lists of individuals receiving charity, and not lists of individuals that belong to the Welsh Society.

The word "do" indicates a ditto mark and the value above should be copied down.

Choose the "Cemetery Register" form type for images with the words "Register of the Welch Society's" in bold capital letters at the top of the page or the handwritten words "Memoranda of Bodies removed from the Welsh Burying ground to Mt Moriah Cemetery".

Burial Age

Key the age as seen at the time the record was recorded using the dictionary provided for assistance. If present, age may be in the column labeled "Age" and should be a number between 1 and 120.

Valid ages include numeric digits between "0" and "120" and fractions between "1/12" and "11/12." If an age includes years, months, and/or days key only the years. For example, if an age appears as 10 years, 7 months, key age as "10." If an age appears in months, such as 10 months, key age as a fraction: "10/12." If an Age includes years plus a fraction, such as 3 3/12, key only the year: "3." If the age is less than one month, key "0."

Burial Month

Key the month in its three-letter abbreviation from the burial date using the dictionary provided for assistance. Burial date may be found in the column labeled "Date of Interment".

Burial Day

Key the day from the burial date as seen on the record. Burial date may be found in the column labeled "Date of Interment".

Burial Year

Key the year from the burial date as seen on the record. Burial date may be found in the column labeled "Date of Interment".

Birth Place

Key the birth place as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. Separate any geographical locations with a comma. Ex: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Birth place may be found in the column labeled "Place of Birth".

Charity List

Choose the "Charity List" form type for images with a list of names and a currency or dollar amount to the right or left of the names. In the paragraph immediately preceding the name list, keywords such as "Welsh", "Wales", "Emigrants", "Welsh emigrants", or "Relief" will help in identifying that a Charity list will follow. In some cases these keywords will be in the paragraph below the names.

Do not key lists of members of the society. These lists are typically in two or more columns and will not contain currency or dollar amounts next to the names.
