About this project This collection contains school registers and lists from the following schools in New Zealand: Wanganui Collegiate School (1854-1939), Christ College School (1850-1921), Nelson Old Boys Register (1856-1956), School List of the Wellington Diocesan School for Girls, Nga Tawa, Marton (1911-1967), and Southland Boys High School Register (1881 to 1930).

Project Instructions
This collection contains school registers and lists from several schools in New Zealand. The lists contain the name of the student often with an attendance date a residence and sometimes a fathers name and a death date.

Suffix

Key all titles, such as "Jr" or "III", following the surname of the primary person as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance.

Surname

Key the surname as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance.


Given

Key the first name or initial and any middle names of the primary person as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. Initials should be keyed with a space between them and without entering periods.

Prefix

Key any titles before the given name, such as "Dr," "Mr," or "Mrs," of the primary person as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. Only prefix values should be keyed into the prefix field.

Attendance Month

Key the month in its three-letter abbreviation from the attendance date using the dictionary provided for assistance. Attendance date is the date the individual attended school and is typically located directly following the primary name or across from the primary name.

Attendance Year

Key the year from the attendance date as seen on the record. If the year is in a range, key the range, expanding two digit years as needed. Attendance date is the date the individual attended school and is typically located directly following the primary name or across from the primary name. If the range includes more than two years such as 1881-82-83, key the range as 1881-1883.

Attendance Day

Key the day from the attendance date as seen on the record. Attendance date is the date the individual attended school and is typically located directly following the primary name or across from the primary name.

Residence City

Key the residence city as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. Residence city may be found after the name of the father, or after the occupation of the primary person. On some records, the residence city is found at the end or beginning of the record after the street address of the primary person.

Father Given

Key the first name or initial and any middle names of the father of the primary person as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. Initials should be keyed with a space between them and without entering periods. When present, father name typically follows the primary name and may come after the words "Son of."

Father Surname

Key the surname of the father of the primary person as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. When present, father name typically follows the primary name and may come after the words "Son of." When the surname of the father is not present, key the surname of the child into this field.

Death Day

Key the day from the death date as seen on the record. Death date may be found after the words "Died," "Died at the age," "Died at," or something similar. Death date may also come after the cause of death, i.e. "Drowned."

Death Month

Key the month in its three-letter abbreviation from the death date using the dictionary provided for assistance. Death date may be found after the words "Died," "Died at the age," "Died at," or something similar. Death date may also come after the cause of death, i.e. "Drowned."

Death Year

Key the year from the death date as seen on the record. Death date may be found after the words "Died," "Died at the age," "Died at," or something similar. Death date may also come after the cause of death, i.e. "Drowned."

Death Place

Key the death place as seen on the record using the dictionary provided for assistance. Separate any geographical locations with a comma. Ex: All Saints, Southampton. Death place may be found after the words "Died," "Died at the age," "Died at," or something similar. Death place may also come after the cause of death, i.e. "Drowned."

Death Age

Key the age as seen at the time of death using the dictionary provided for assistance. If present, age may be found next to the word "Age" or "Aged" and should be a number between 1 and 120.

Valid ages include numeric digits between "0" and "120" and fractions between "1/12" and "11/12." If an age includes years, months, and/or days key only the years. For example, if an age appears as 10 years, 7 months, key age as "10." If an age appears in months, such as 10 months, key age as a fraction: "10/12." If an Age includes years plus a fraction, such as 3 3/12, key only the year: "3." If the age is less than one month, key "0."

Choose the "Index" form type when the image is of an internal index. An Index usually contains names (often in alphabetical order) with a corresponding page number so as to find the individual listed. Some indexes have alphabetical tabs on the right or left margin.

Use the 'Cover page, Section header, etc' type for images that don't contain any data, but might be interesting to look at because they provide some type of context for the image set. For instance, historical notes, affidavits, and so forth.

Use the 'Image with no data' type for images that don't contain any data or any useful context that might be interesting for someone to look at. For instance, an image containing only the blank background or an image with a microfilm target on it.
