Project Instructions
Images that contain names with information should be classified as the "List" form type. From these images we are keying the Name, Alias Name, Marriage Age, Spouse Name, Spouse Alias Name, Spouse Alias Age, Event Date and Event Type.

Key the Event Type in its expanded form using the dictionary provided to assist you. The Event Type will be located after the Given and Spouse names and before the Event Date. The Event Type will be noted as Marriage (m), Application (apl or app) or License (lic).

Choose the "List" form type when the image contains names with relating information concerning their marriage, application or licence dates.

Prefix

Key any titles before the Given name, such as "Dr", "Rev", "Mr" or "Mrs", using the dictionary provided for assistance. If a prefix does not appear in the dictionary then key the prefix as seen. Only prefix values should go in the prefix field.
When provided, the Prefix can be located before the Given Name.

Given

Key the first name or initial and any middle names of the primary person to whom the record pertains using the dictionary provided for assistance. If a name does not appear in the dictionary then key the name as seen.
A new record will list on the left side of the image the Given Surname and below the Spouse Surname all in upper case.
The name order should be ("Given", "Surname", "Spouse Given", "Spouse Surname").

Surname

The Surname is the last name of the primary person to whom the record applies. Key the Surname using the dictionary provided for assistance. If the surname does not appear in the dictionary then key the surname as seen.
The name order should be ("Given", "Surname", "Spouse Given", "Spouse Surname".

Suffix

Key all titles, such as "Jr" or "III", following the surname of the primary person to whom the record applies using a dictionary if provided for assistance. If a suffix does not appear in a dictionary then key the suffix as seen.

Alias Given

Key the first name or initial and any middle names of the alias name as seen on the record using the dictionary provided to assist you. Initials should be keyed with a space between them and without entering the periods.
When provided, the Alias Given can be located in parentheses between the Given and Surname. If there are two names in parentheses after the Surname then the name order will be ("Alias Given", "Alias Surname").
If the Alias Name is descriptive and not a name, do not key this in the Alias name fields.

Alias Surname

Key the Surname of the Alias name as seen on the record using the dictionary provided to assist you. If an Alias Surname is not provided in the dictionary then key as seen.
When provided, the Alias Surname can be located after the Surname in parentheses.
If there are two names in parentheses after the Surname then the name order will be ("Alias Given", "Alias Surname").
If the Alias Name is descriptive and not a name, do not key this in the Alias name fields.

Marriage Age

When provided, key the Marriage Age, which can be located after the Surname and will usually have the word "over" with the age, key both age and "over" together.

Spouse Given

The Spouse Given is the first name or initial and any middle names of the spouse of the primary person to whom the record applies. Key the Spouse Given name using the dictionary provided for assistance. If a spouse given name does not appear in the dictionary then key the spouse given name as seen.
The name order is generally "Given", "Surname", "Spouse Given", "Spouse Surname".

The Spouse Surname is the last name of the spouse of the primary person to whom the record applies. Key the Spouse Surname using the dictionary provided for assistance. If a spouse surname does not appear in the dictionary then key the spouse surname as seen.

Spouse Marriage Age

When provided, key the Spouse Marriage Age, which can be located after the Spouse Surname and will usually have the word "over" with the age, key both age and "over" together.

Event Type

Key the Event Type in its expanded form using the dictionary provided to assist you. The Event Type will be located after the Given and Spouse names and before the Event Date. The Event Type will be noted as Marriage (m), Application (apl or app) or License (lic). When there are multiple events take the latest event that occurred.

Event Day

Key the day from the event date. When provided, the Event Date can be identified as following the letters: "m", "apl", "app", "lic" or "application".
The date order will be given in day, month, year order.

Event Month

Using the dictionary provided, key the three letter month. When provided, the Event Date can be identified as following the letters: "m", "apl", "app", "lic" or "application".
The date order will be given in day, month, year order.

Event Year

Key the year from the event date. The Year must be either two or four digits. When provided, the Event Date can be identified as following the letters: "m", "apl", "app", "lic" or "application".
The date order will be given in day, month, year order.

Choose the "Index" form type when the image contains an internal index. It will be a list of names, and will typically say "Index" at the top.

The Title Page will usually have the title: "Marion County Oregon Marriage Records" in the header of the image.

Use the 'Cover page, Section header, etc' type for images that don't contain any data, but might be interesting to look at because they provide some type of context for the image set. For instance, historical notes, affidavits, and so forth.

Use the 'Image with no data' type for images that don't contain any data or any useful context that might be interesting for someone to look at. For instance, an image containing only the blank background or an image with a microfilm target on it.
