This collection contains Quarter Session Records and Petitions from Lancashire, England. We will be keying reference material from title boards, and name, place, and date information from quarter session documents.

Project Instructions This is a collection of Quarter Session Petitions and Orders from Lancashire. Fields to be keyed: Name, Alias Name, Residence Place, Civil Date, Reference Information, Session. Quarter Session Place, Record Type, and Year Range. Some of the images are very old and the handwriting is difficult to read.
Names should be keyed from the written text. If the same name appears more than once on the same image, only key once. Do not key names of Jurors, Judges, Witnesses, and Committee members.
Alias names may appear in either the margin or the written text.
Dates may appear in multiple places on the image. The civil date will usually be by the name. If no date appears here, then key from the date at the top of the image. Key images, as applicable, even if they do not fall within the date ranges [1871-1910].
Please note that in addition to the regular form types, there will also be "Non-Session Records" which we are Not keying, and "Title Board" which we are keying.

Image with no data
Quarter Session Record
Choose the Quarter Session form type for images which contain names of appellants, respondents, or persons being paid by the quarter session for services rendered. Do not key names of court officers, witnesses, jurors, judges, or lawyers/solicitors.

Prefix
Key any titles before the given name, such as "Dr," "Mr," or "Mrs," as seen on the record using the dictionary provided to assist you.
Given
Key the first name or initial and any middle names as seen on the record using the dictionary provided to assist you. Initials should be keyed with a space between them and without entering the periods. If the same name appears more than once on the same image, only key once. Do not key names of Jurors, Judges, Witnesses, and Committee members.
Surname
Key the surname as seen on the record using the dictionary provided to assist you.If the same name appears more than once on the same image, only key once. Do not key names of Jurors, Judges, Witnesses, and Committee members.
Suffix
Key all titles, such as "Jr" or "III", following the surname as seen on the record using the dictionary provided to assist you.
Alias Given
Key the first name or initial and any middle names of the alias as seen on the record using the dictionary provided to assist you. Initials should be keyed with a space between them and without entering the periods.
Alias Surname
Key the surname of the alias as seen on the record using the dictionary provided to assist you.
Residence Place
Key the residence place as seen on the record using the dictionary provided to assist you. The residence place will usually appear by the name, sometimes with the words "late of" or "parish of" before the Residence Place.
Civil Day
Key the Day from the Civil Date.The civil date will usually be by the name in the text. If no date appears here, then key from the date at the top of the image.
Civil Month
Key the Month in its three-letter abbreviation from the Civil Date using the dictionary provided to assist you.The civil date will usually be by the name. If no date appears here, then key from the date at the top of the image.
Civil Year
When provided, key the Year in its numerical format from the Civil Date.The civil date will usually be by the name in the text. If no date appears here, then key from the date at the top of the image.

Title Board
Choose the Title Board form type for images of Microfilm title boards.

Reference Information
Key the Reference Information from Titleboards indicated by the keywords "Film No." or "Volume/s" as seen.
Session
Key the Session as seen from the titleboard. The Session will normally be labeled as a month, or as a festival period of the year, such as "Easter" or "Michaelmas".
Quarter Session Place
Key the Quarter Session Place from the fields labeled "Place" "County or District" or "Locality of Record" using the provided dictionary for assistance. If a value does not appear in the dictionary, then key as seen.
Record Type
Key the Record Type from the field labeled "Contents", "Description of Record" or "Title of Record" using the provided dictionary. If a value is not present in the dictionary, then key as seen. "Quarter Sessions" should not be omitted when appearing with other values.
Year Range
Key the Year Range from the field labeled "Years Covered", or "Year/s Included" as seen."
Keying Image Samples
Non-Quarter Session
Choose the Non-Quarter Session form types of images which are not Quarter Session records. These may include birth/marriage/death type records, church records, or catalog images/indexes which list a summary of Quarter Session content but do not have original data.
Additional Image Samples
Cover page, Section header, etc
Use the 'Cover page, Section header, etc' type for images that don't contain any data, but might be interesting to look at because they provide some type of context for the image set. For instance, historical notes, affidavits, and so forth.
Image with no data
Use the 'Image with no data' type for images that do not contain any data or any useful context that might be interesting for someone to look at. For instance, an image containing only a blank background.
