About this project This collection contains 340 books of extractions of baptism, marriages and burials from parish registers in East Kent, compiled by Frank Watt Tyler. The collection is held by the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies (IHGS) and thereat known as "The Tyler Collection".

Register Page

Register Page

Any image that has content to be be keyed should be classified as a Register Page. This includes images that contain baptisms, marriages, burials, or monumental inscriptions on them.

Parish

The parish may be listed at the top of the page or above a smaller grouping of records. In both of these cases, the parish needs to be applied to every record within the section. The parish may also be listed individually with each record. In this case, key whatever parish is listed in the record. Key the parish as seen, using the provided dictionary for assistance. Please do not assume parish.

Event Type

Please enter the type of record you are keying. Options are: Baptism, Burial, Marriage or Monumental Inscription.

Per WAP: Banns entries should not be keyed. (A Banns entry will list 3 different 'event dates').

Event Day

Enter the Day element of the baptism date, burial date, marriage date, or death date (for monumental inscriptions). Key as seen.

Event Month

Enter the Month element of the baptism date, burial date, marriage date, or death date (for monumental inscriptions). Key the names of the months in full, even if abbreviated or written numerically in the record.

Event Year

Enter the Year element of the baptism date, burial date, marriage date, or death date (for monumental inscriptions). Key as seen the two or four-digit year. If the year appears in the format: 'nnnn/n', key the entire year(s) as seen - including the slash. Do not change the year, unless or until, the year changes on the image.

Prefix

Key any titles before the Given name, such as "Dr", "Rev", "Mr" or "Mrs", using the provided dictionary for assistance. If a prefix does not appear in a dictionary then key the prefix as seen. On baptism and burial/death records "stillborn", "child", "unknown", or "not stated" may appear. Key these as prefixes. If "child of Peter Pan" appears, key "child of" as a prefix then key "Peter Pan" into the Father name field.

Given

Key the first name or initial and any middle names of the primary person to whom the record pertains using the provided dictionary for assistance. If a name does not appear in the dictionary then key the name as seen.

Surname

The Surname is the last name of the primary person to whom the record applies. Capture the Surname using the dictionary provided for assistance. If the surname does not appear in the dictionary then key the surname as seen

Suffix

Key all titles, such as "Jr" or "III", following the surname of the primary person to whom the record applies using the provided dictionary for assistance. If a suffix does not appear in a dictionary then key the suffix as seen.

Age

Key the age of the primary person on any form type when present. However, the age will primarily only be listed on monumental inscriptions. If an Age includes years, months, and/or days then key only the years. For example, if an Age appears as 10 years, 7 months then key the Age as 10. If an Age appears in months only, such as 10 months, then key the Age as a fraction of twelfths ' 10/12.· If an Age includes a fraction, such as 3 3/8, key only the whole number ' 3. If an Age includes only days, such as 5 days, key the age as zero - 0.

Relationship

Key either "son" or "daughter", when specified, from Baptism records only. Sometimes "son" or "daughter" will be abbreviated as "s" or "d" on the record. Select the relationship from the provided dictionary.

Father Given

The Father Given is the first name or initial with any middle names or initials of the father of the primary person to whom the record pertains. Key the Father Given name whenever present, on any event type. Use the dictionary provided for assistance. If the name does not appear in the dictionary then key the name as seen. Father's surname should NOT be taken from the child.

The Father Surname is the last name of the father of the primary person. Key the Father Surname name whenever present using the dictionary for assistance. If a surname does not appear in the dictionary then key the surname as seen. Do not infer the surname from the primary person. If there is not a surname recorded leave this field blank.
