Project Instructions
This collection contains population schedules for both cities and counties in Kansas. They include information about agriculture and livestock from the year, as well as the name of the head of each family in the township.
Information is being keyed from title page images and any images that contain names. The majority of the images will not have names and should be marked as "Cover Page, Section Header, etc."

Additional Image Samples
Use the "Census Form" type for images that contain names to be keyed. From these images, key all names and any date and location information that might be available. If the image is far too illegible* to key any names from, mark the image as "Cover Page, Section Header, etc."
- Here is an example of an illegible page. You can tell that there are names but no matter what you do to adjust the image you can't read them.
If you can read any part of the page, please mark the record as a Census form type and enter the heading and any names that you can decipher.
Note: there are two reels in particular that are nearly entirely illegible, these are 2278162 and 2278164 (the enumeration date for both is 1 Mar 1919). Reels 2278163 and 2278164 contain faded, but still salvageable pages, other images have some spots of damage, but are not lost, an attempt should be made to salvage these.
Township (City)
Key the township (city) as seen using the dictionary provided for assistance. The township (city) will be at the top of the image, typically in the line marked "township" ("city"). If there is no township (city) at the top of the record, leave this field blank. Do not key the postal address as the township (city).
County
Key the county where the person resided as seen using the dictionary for assistance. The county will be at the top of the image, typically in the line marked "county".
Enumeration Day
Key the day of the enumeration. The enumeration date will be at the top of the image.
Enumeration Month
Key the month in its three letter format, using the provided dictionary. The enumeration date will be at the top of the image.
Enumeration Year
Key the year of the enumeration in its four digit format. The enumeration date will be at the top of the image.
Prefix
Key any titles before the Given name, such as "Dr", "Rev", "Mr" or "Mrs", as seen using the dictionary provided for assistance. Do not key ranks.
Given
Key the first name or initials (without periods) and any middle names of the primary person to whom the record pertains as seen using the dictionary provided for assistance. If a name does not appear in the dictionary then key the name as seen. Key business names in the given field.
Surname
Key the Surname of the primary individual as seen using the dictionary provided for assistance. If you come across records where there is an individual listed with a surname and others listed below without a surname (generally this is the head of household and their family) please copy the surname down until you encounter the next surname.
Suffix
Key all titles, such as "Jr" or "III", following the surname of the primary person to whom the record applies as seen using the dictionary provided for assistance.
Title Page
http://c.mfcreative.com/i/akt/projecthelp/31984/31984_238144-00010.jpg
Use the "Title Page" type for images that are the first page of a statistical roll. They will contain the year the census was taken, as well as the county and townhip.
Township (City)
Key the township (city) as seen using the dictionary provided. If the name does not appear in the dictionary then key as seen. The township (city) will be at the top of the image, typically in the line marked "township" ("city").
County
Key the county where the person resided as seen using the dictionary for assistance. The county will be at the top of the image, typically in the line marked "county".

Enumeration Year
Key the year of the enumeration in its four digit format. The enumeration date will be at the top of the image.
Cover Pages
The Form Selection for these pages should be "Cover Page". No data will be keyed, but the image will be retained for viewing by researchers.
Images with no Data, Blank Pages
The form selection for these images is "Image with no Data". These images may be removed later by the project team from the final product. So, don't use this if a researcher might want to view the image.
