Project Instructions
This collection contains the entire Testimonial Roll given to Lord Viscount Morpeth in 1841 when he left the position of Chief Secretary of Ireland.

The majority of the images contain the signatures on the testimonial roll. Because the pages are adhered together to form one long roll, individual documents are not contained in each image. To avoid missing any names, the images contain a margin of the previous and subsequent page on the roll. Only key the names from the primary page(s) of the image. Partial documents in the top and bottom margins will be found on other images in most cases. Document fragments that are not found elsewhere should be keyed too. An example of this would be a document that is torn, but still adhered to the main document, and the fragment is entirely within the image. See an example here.

When residence information is available, key only townships, cities, and counties. Any address, business, or occupational information should not be keyed. The only exception is when the business appears as a name (not after a name). In this case, the business should be keyed as a given name.

Key the names in the order of the vertical columns, and not in horizontal order.

Choose the "Testimonial Roll" form if this part of the roll has a list of names. Only key the names that are on the full sheet, and not the names that are on the partial sheets at the top and bottom of the images. These partial sheets are used as margins and the names will appear on another images.

Additional Image Samples

Prefix

Key any titles before the Given name, such as "Dr", "Rev", "Mr" or "Mrs", using a dictionary if provided for assistance. If a prefix does not appear in a dictionary then key the prefix as seen.
See Example

Given

Key the first name or initial and any middle names of the primary person to whom the record pertains using a dictionary if provided for assistance. If a name does not appear in the dictionary then key the name as seen. If the name of a business appears as the name (not after a name) then key the business as a person's given name.
See Example

Surname

Key the Surname using the dictionary provided for assistance. If the surname does not appear in the dictionary then key the surname as seen.
See Example

Suffix

Key all titles, such as "Jr" or "III", following the surname of the primary person to whom the record applies using a dictionary if provided for assistance. If a suffix does not appear in a dictionary then key the suffix as seen.
See Example

Street Name

Key the street name as seen if it appears after an individual's name.

Only key the street name if it is clearly identified as such with words such as "street" or "avenue". Do not key any street or address numbers that appear before the street name.

Include the word "street", "avenue", "lane," etc., as they appear.

Residence

Key any township, cities, or countries in the residence field if they appears after the individual's name. If more than one location appears, key all the locations, each separated by a comma. For example, if "Allen Kidare Co." appears after an individual's name, key as "Allen, Kidare." Do NOT key any addresses, business or occupational information that may appear after an individual's name. Key locations as written, do not expand abbreviations or correct misspellings. Do not use information in sticky notes or in headers for residence in this project (they aren't considered reliable).
See Example

Keying Samples

Images with sticky notes

Some images will contain sticky notes and sometimes obstruct names on the image. Images where the sticky note appears above the main page should be marked as a "Testimonial Roll" image and be keyed from. If the sticky note appears on the main page and is obstructing names on the main page, the image should be marked as "Cover page, Section header, etc". There will be a subsequent image with the sticky note pulled back to reveal all the names on the page. If the image is of this sticky note pulled back to reveal the names on the main page, it should be marked as "Testimonial Roll" and be keyed from.

Cover page, Section header, etc

Cover Page Testimonial Roll Example 1.JPG

Use the 'Cover page, Section header, etc' type for images that don't contain any data, but might be interesting to look at because they provide some type of context for the image set. For instance, historical notes, affidavits, and so forth.

If the full sheet of the image does not contain names but there are names included on the partial sheets at the top or bottom margin of the image, the image should be marked as "Cover page, Section header, etc." These names will be on and keyed from subsequent images.

Image with no data

Use the 'Image with no data' type for images that don't contain any data or any useful context that might be interesting for someone to look at. For instance, an image containing only the blank background or an image with a microfilm target on it.

There should be no Image with no data form types in this project.
