Project Instructions

This collection contains compiled service records of volunteer soldiers who served in the Florida Infantry during the Spanish American War in 1898. The collection is comprised of informational cards that are arranged in packets, with each packet pertaining to a different soldier. The packets are arranged alphabetically by soldiers surname and can contain information such as birth date and place, enlistment date and age, rank, company, hospital records, physical descriptions, financial records, etc.

There are only two image types that we will be keying from, both of which should be marked as a "Description & Muster-In Card". We are keying the exact same information from both images.

Mark an image as Description & Muster-In Card ONLY if the title says, "Description, Physical Record, and Enlistment. VOLUNTEERS" OR the label directly under the soldier's name and unit says "Company Muster-In Roll." DO NOT mark an image as a "Description & Muster-In Card" if the label says "Field, Staff and Band Muster-in Roll", "Company Muster Roll" or "Company Muster-Out Roll", or anything else besides "Company Muster-In Roll".

Name Cards are also being identified, but there is no information being keyed from them. Name Cards will have "Card Numbers" underneath the name, unit, and rank of soldier. Only select the "Name Card" form type if you see "Card Numbers" on the card.

Any other cards that have names or other information should be marked as "Cover page, Section header, etc."
