Keying Instructions

This collection contains a typed index of known inhabitants of the Cumberland Settlements during the years 1770-1790. All names appearing in the index should be keyed as individual records. Dates that apply to each individual should also be keyed. When multiple event dates are listed for an individual, only the first date should be keyed. If a year range is provided for an event, rather than a specific date, key just the first year of the range.

All images that do not contain names to be keyed, but still have information on them should be marked as "Cover Page, Section Header, etc." Only images that contain blank sheets of paper should be marked as "Image with No Data."
