Wayne is a county in Tennessee. It was formed in 1817 from the following county/ies: Hickman/Humphreys. Wayne began keeping birth records in 1881, marriage records in 1857, and death records in 1881. It began keeping land records in 1820, probate records in 1820, and court records in 1837. For more information, contact the county at 200 Court Sq./P.O. Box 185, Waynesboro 38485-0185. On the attached map, Wayne is located at A4, E8. An earlier, but separate, 'Wayne County' is included in today's Carter County and part of Johnson County. It was established in 1785 under the state of Franklin but was abolished in 1788.
