Washington is a county in New York. It was formed in 1772 from the following county/ies: Albany (called Charlotte until 1784). The earliest land deed in Washington was recorded in 1774. Surrogate's Court records begin in 1787. One can contact the Surrogate's Court at 383 Broadway, Bldg. C. For more information, contact the county at 383 Broadway, Bldg. A, Fort Edward 12828. On the attached map, Washington is located at P16. The eastern part of the county became a part of Vermont when it declared itself a republic in 1777'78.
