Walton (present) is a county in Georgia. It was formed in 1818 from the following county/ies: Cherokee lands/Habersham. Walton (present) began keeping birth records in , marriage records in 1825, and death records in . It began keeping land records in 1819, probate records in 1820, and court records in 1819. The area of the original Walton County in Georgia is in what is now Transylvania County, North Carolina. When the boundary between Georgia and North Carolina was fixed, Walton was abolished. At that time, the settlement was adjacent to Buncombe County, North Carolina.
