The list of published tombstone inscriptions for Virginia, if a comprehensive list existed, would be lengthy. The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) has compiled an extensive collection of Virginia tombstone inscriptions. The collection, along with other cemetery record publications, can be found at the Daughters of the American Revolution Library in Washington, D.C., the Library of Virginia, the Virginia Historical Society, and the FHL. See also The William and Mary Quarterly, The Virginia Magazine of History and Genealogy, Tyler's Quarterly, The Magazine of Virginia Genealogy, and The Virginia Genealogist, since all these periodicals often include cemetery inscriptions in their volumes. Anna M. Hogg and Dennis A. Tosh, Virginia Cemeteries: A Guide for Resources (Charlottesville, Va.: University Press of Virginia, 1986), is recommended by the Library of Virginia.

Two websites devoted to publishing tombstone inscriptions from cemeteries throughout the United States have listings from cemeteries in Virginia: Interment.net at www.interment.net/us/va/ and Find A Grave at www.findagrave.com. Inscriptions from multiple sites organized by county can be located here: Virginia Cemetery Records
