Tulsa, Oklahoma

  Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma is located in Northeastern Oklahoma on the Arkansas River. Incorporated in 1898, it was in the northwest corner of the Creek Nation, near enough to the Cherokee line that part of the city's corporate limits extended into that nation. Legas C. Perryman, the ex-chief of the Creek Nation made his home in Tulsa.

Some of the earliest records of the town date back to 1882 when H. C. and J. M. Hall began merchandising in the area. Colonel Ed Caulkins, one of the oldest residents of Indian Territory was the first mayor of Tulsa. The oldest Newspaper in Tulsa was the Indian Republican. A later competitor was the Tulsa Democrat. The First National Bank opened January 21, 1899.
