Tioga is a county in New York. It was formed in 1791 from the following county/ies: Montgomery. The earliest land deed in Tioga was recorded in 1791. Surrogate's Court records begin in 1798. One can contact the Surrogate's Court at 20 Court St., P.O. Box 10, Owego 13827-0010. For more information, contact the county at P.O. Box 307, Owego 13827-0307. On the attached map, Tioga is located at S10. The explanation for the delay in the Surrogate's records is not fully known, but some estate records during this period may have perished in an early fire in Spencer, once the county seat.
