A large collection of transcripts of Tennessee cemetery records has been compiled by members of chapters of the DAR (see page 8). Other compilations of cemetery records are those in the Calvin M. McClung Historical Collection in the Lawson McGhee Library and in the Tennessee Miscellaneous Family and Cemetery Records collection available at the TSLA and through the FHL. The state library and archives has notebooks containing listings of cemetery records.

County genealogical and historical societies and local citizens have collected, compiled, and published numerous volumes of cemetery records. Other notable sources include:

  • Acklen, Jeannette T., et al. Tennessee Records. 2 vols. 1933. Reprint. Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1974. Volume 1 contains tombstone inscriptions.
  • Hunkins, Lillian. Tombstone Inscriptions and Marriages of Middle Tennessee. Houston: the author, 1965.

Some cemetery inscriptions are found online and can be located here: Tennessee Cemetery Records
