Oklahoma deeds, probates, and civil court records are located at the county clerk's or clerk of the courts office. Marriage records before statewide recording may be found at the county clerk's as well, but records of births and deaths are not available until statewide recording began. Official certificates come from the State Department of Health (see Oklahoma Vital Records). The State Election Board, Oklahoma Museum of Election History, Oklahoma City, OK 73105, holds precinct registers and/or other records for thirty-four counties.

The largest percentage of Oklahoma's extant public records were generated in the twentieth century and are generally intact. Send inquiries to the county official at the courthouse address for the appropriate county. Some dates in the following chart were obtained from Blessing, Oklahoma Records and Archives, and Koplowitz, Guide to Historical Records of Oklahoma (both cited in Background Sources for Oklahoma). There are a few discrepancies in county record beginning dates between Koplowitz and Blessing; in such instances, Koplowitz's dates have been used.

Information for current addresses and zip codes for Oklahoma county courthouses came from www.royaltydeeds.com/courthouses/oklahoma.htm. Additional dates for earliest availability of county records and formation dates with previous jurisdictions were taken from the Family History Library website at www.familysearch.org. At the time of the land runs that opened Oklahoma for settlement, thirty judicial Recording Districts were designated as the transitional form of government just prior to statehood and county formation. The Recording District for the appropriate counties are listed in the middle column. Records for those districts may not be extant, however. Only dates for records under county jurisdictions were used; other published compilations are available and in many instances include earlier records.
