Peggy Tuck Sinko's Guide to Local and Family History at the Newberry Library (Salt Lake City: Ancestry, 1987) gives a comprehensive description of the Illinois sources available at this excellent repository. The library has an especially strong Chicago area collection.
This repository, although in Illinois, should be considered a source for Indiana research as Indiana holdings are among the library's strongest state collections. Records include indexes and transcripts of vital records, probates, deeds, cemetery records, naturalizations, church records, and extensive land records.
Although in Illinois, this repository should be considered a source for Iowa research. According to Peggy Tuck Sinko, author of Guide to Local and Family History at the Newberry Library (Salt Lake City: Ancestry, 1987), 'The Iowa holdings of The Newberry Library are surpassed in size, scope, and quality only by the library's Illinois collection.' The Iowa collection includes considerable genealogical and local history material, plus a number of rare books and manuscripts included in the Graff Collection.
