The Directory of Maryland's Burial Grounds, by the Genealogical Council of Maryland (Westminster, Md.: Family Line Publications, 1996), provides the location of public and private cemeteries.

The Maryland State Archives has indexes to cemetery records for various time periods. Some have been published in the Maryland Genealogical Society Bulletin and other journals and in individual works covering large parts of Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Cecil, Dorchester, Frederick, Garrett, Harford, Kent, Prince George's, Queen Anne's, Saint Mary's, Somerset, Washington, Wicomico, and Worcester counties. A great number of grave marker inscriptions have been transcribed by members of the Maryland DAR and will be found at the Maryland Historical Society and the DAR Library in Washington, D.C. See also Helen W. Ridgely, Historic Graves of Maryland and the District of Columbia (1908; reprint, Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 2002).
