Douglas is a county in Colorado. It was formed in 1861 as one of the Kansas Territory/Colorado's original counties. Douglas County began keeping birth records in 1894-1908 and death records in 1894, these are held by the Tri-County Health Department. The County's marriage records (held by the Clerk and Recorder) date from 1864. The County began keeping land records in 1863, probate records in 1861?, and court records in 1861?. Original county seat at Franktown, records were held at the California Ranch. County seat moved to Castle Rock in 1874. Small part of Cheyenne and Arapahoe Reservations added in 1870. Courthouse burned in 1978 but minimal loss of records.
