District of Columbia County Resources
This entry was originally written by Johni Cerny in Red Book: American State, County, and Town Sources.
Only one courthouse exists for the District of Columbia since its jurisdiction encompasses a single county. Land records are at the recorder of deeds, probate records are at the register of wills, and court records before 1863 are at Washington National Records Center. Later court records are in the appropriate court's office.
