This major research repository includes the State Archives and the History and Genealogy Unit. The unit provides the researcher with access in person and by mail to the archival material, genealogical indexes, and published materials described in various sections above. The staff is not available for research, however. Guides to their original source materials are available at the cost of photocopying and postage and on their website. They are extremely helpful in focusing research.

A major genealogical reference library with excellent holdings in family genealogies, town histories, census records, and a book loan program for members.

Connecticut Society of Genealogists

Their publication, Connecticut Nutmegger, is available by subscription or with membership. The society meets often during the year with an educational program for genealogists.

Connecticut Ancestry Society

Formerly called the Stamford Genealogical Society, the society holds monthly meetings and produces a publication called Connecticut Ancestry, previously Bulletin of the Stamford Genealogical Society (1971).
