Colleton is a county or district in South Carolina. It was formed in 1800 from the following county/ies or district/s: Colleton/Bartholomew/Berkeley. It has functioned from Counties in Charleston District. Colleton began keeping birth records in 1915, marriage records in 1911, and death records in 1915. It began keeping land records in 1802, probate records in 1865, and court records in 1807. For more information, contact the county at P.O. Box 157, Walterboro 29488-0002.
