Cherokee is a county in Georgia. It was formed in 1831 from the following county/ies: Cherokee lands; at that time including all of northwest Georgia from present day Polk, Cobb, and Forsyth Counties northward. Hall, Habersham, and Rabun Counties were the only exceptions. Cherokee began keeping birth records in , marriage records in 1841, and death records in . It began keeping land records in 1833, probate records in 1833, and court records in 1832. For more information, contact the county at 90 North St., Canton 30114.
