CGI is the abbreviation for Certified Genealogical Instructor.

The postnominal of CGI was administered by the Board for Certification of Genealogists®. Currently, the Board only awards certifications as a Certified Genealogist (CG) and Certified Genealogical Lecturer (CGL).

Along with CGI, the Board previously offered credentials of Certified Genealogical Records Specialist (CGRS), Certified Lineage Specialist (CLS), and Certified American Indian Lineage Specialist (CAILS). These credentials are no longer current, but you might see them in older publications.
