Carter is a county in Tennessee. It was formed in 1796 from the following county/ies: Washington. Carter began keeping birth records in 1881, marriage records in 1790, and death records in 1881. It began keeping land records in 1795, probate records in 1794, and court records in 1804. For more information, contact the county at 801 E. Elk Ave., Elizabethton 37643.
