Georgia records and research are discussed in detail in Robert S. Davis Jr., Research in Georgia (Easley, S.C.: Southern Historical Press, 1980), and Ted O. Brooke and Robert S. Davis, Georgia Research (Atlanta: Georgia Genealogical Society, 2002). James E. Dorsey's Georgia Genealogy and Local History (Spartanburg, S.C.: Reprint Co., 1983) offers articles and abstracts of Georgia records. It was updated annually in the Georgia Historical Quarterly until 1989 when the Georgia Genealogical Society Quarterly began publishing the updates.

Sources for the state's history include:

  • Coleman, Kenneth, ed. A History of Georgia. 2d ed. Athens, Ga.: University of Georgia Press, 1991.
  • Coulter, E. Merton. Georgia: A Short History. Chapel Hill: University of North Carolina Press, 1964.
